Group Exhibition: Through the Splinters

  • Silian Gallery 434 King's Road London, England, SW10 United Kingdom (map)

Silian Gallery is delighted to present 'Through the Splinters', a group exhibition opening on February 18th, featuring the works of Shuangyi Li, Daniel Arteaga, Jennifer Jones, and Sophie Smorczewski.

Time today feels both fractured and blurred. Days are fragmented by countless distractions, pulled apart by the demands of modern life, yet when reflected upon, they dissolve into an indistinct haze. What remains are fleeting fragments—scattered moments and incomplete impressions—that we struggle to piece together into a coherent narrative of memory and meaning.

Through the Splinters examines this duality of fragmentation, exploring how our identities, experiences, and perceptions are shaped and framed by the fracturing forces of today's information, relationships, and cultural narratives. however, in the search for fuller meaning and self, it is often by intentionally breaking ourselves into fragments that we reflect, uncover, and arrive at a deeper understanding of the whole.

From familial tension and intergenerational dynamics in Shuangyi Li’s cinematic, emotionally precise paintings to Daniel Arteaga’s exploration of perception and memory as tools for reimagining context, the exhibition traverses diverse interpretations of fractured experiences. Jennifer Jones’ multidisciplinary work investigates secrecy, nostalgia, and fragmented memories of familial dysfunction, while Sophie Smorczewski’s abstract paintings evoke nature’s transient beauty and interconnected fragility. Together, these perspectives explore how fragments, whether personal or universal, can evolve into a cohesive whole, offering new ways of seeing and understanding the world.

Welcome to join us for opening drinks on Tuesday 18th February 18:30 - 20:30 PM

About the Artists |

Daniel Arteaga

Daniel Arteaga (b.1993, Cali, Colombia) is a London-based artist whose work explores the intersection of perception, memory, and speculative narratives. He studied Fine Arts at the University of La Laguna, Tenerife, before receiving the Ali H. Alkazzi Scholarship for an MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. Arteaga’s practice, spanning airbrush, brushes, and screen printing, investigates how reality is constructed through visual layers, inviting viewers to engage with the liminal spaces between the seen and the imagined. His work has been featured in exhibitions at JC Gallery, The Department Store, and T.E.A (Spain), among others, with publications including Artists Talks and London Paint Club.

Jennifer Jones

Jennifer Jones (b. 1999, Chelmsford, UK) is a multidisciplinary artist whose work delves into memory, nostalgia, and the psychological weight of family relationships. Based in London, she holds a BA in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, with an Erasmus exchange at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague. Jones’ practice spans textiles, painting, photography, and mixed media, using personal imagery to reconstruct and distort domestic narratives, examining secrecy and fragmentation within the home. She is a resident at the Sarabande Foundation and has exhibited at Camden Art Centre, The Peckham Pelican, and Acme Studios, receiving accolades including Bloomberg New Contemporaries and the New Futures Graduate Art Prize.

Shuangyi Li

Shuangyi Li (b. 2000, China) is a London-based painter whose work explores human emotion, memory, and the passage of time. A graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art, her practice examines familial tension and intergenerational relationships within the context of Chinese social structures. Employing a cinematic approach, her delicately rendered figurative paintings evoke themes of estrangement, unresolved histories, and coded symbolism. Li has exhibited at The Artist Room, Hew Hood Gallery, and Chilli Art Projects, with her work praised for its precise brushwork and emotive intensity.

Sophie Smorczewski

Sophie Smorczewski is a London-based abstract landscape painter whose practice is rooted in the ephemeral qualities of nature. Currently pursuing an MFA at the Slade School of Fine Art, she previously earned a BFA from Manchester School of Art, where she was awarded the Manchester Academy of Fine Art Prize. Inspired by organic ecosystems and the passage of time, her works incorporate handmade pigments and shifting textures that reflect nature’s transient beauty. Smorczewski has exhibited at Blue Shop Gallery, Gallery Eight, and AMP Studios, among others, with her paintings capturing the interconnected fragility and vibrancy of the natural world.
