Yuang Zhang

Yuang Zhang work focuses on collective violence in oral history, using painting to reconstruct virtual landscapes to recall the impact of violence on individuals and to consider the significance of collective violence in history and painting.

Zhang place the perspective in his work in a broader dimension of time and focus on individual narratives within macro-history. From bloody hunting in ancient China to school bullying in secondary school, he is committed to showing the powerlessness and numbness of the individual in the midst of collective behaviour, and use the tragic romance of this historical canopy as the main thread of his work.
