Jianhua Liu

Artist Jianhua Liu’s works on view at Silian Gallery, created for the Asian Artist Exchange Programme, are lined with Chinese history and traditional symbolism.

In the series, each painting depicts a bird and a Taihu rock – unique natural forms that have been collected and loved by Chinese communities since the early dynasties. These rocks resemble the mountains where Daoist immortals, monks, and high scholars used to reside, and are believed to hold great natural energies.

Jianhua Liu, a respected professor at the Guangzhou School of Calligraphy and Painting. As a long-standing member of the Guangdong Artists Association and serving as the Vice Chairman of the Baiyun District Artists Association in Guangzhou, his artwork has been featured in various provincial and municipal exhibitions; most notably, his painting, "Hope in the Mountains," was selected to exhibit in the Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan section within the 13th National Art Exhibition. Jianhua Liu's current works on view is a beautiful showcase of his unique and distinctive blend of Chinese traditional painting technique and the sensibility to the rhythm of Western abstraction.
