jiachen zeng
JIachen zeng experiments across disciplines of installations, paintings, and drawings that involve performative and interactive elements, as means to find, break, and connect boundaries that interlock or interrupt the existing balanced ecologies of daily occurrences.
Silian Gallery presents The "Mermer" series by Jiachen Zeng which comprises a group of two- and three-dimensional pieces featuring figures of a half black and half white character, portrayed in familiarized environments and emotions from everyday life. Zen g reflects these figures in scenes as self-awareness; the dual-toned genderless character reveals the transitional nature of light and darkness that are captured from daily occurrences, neither fully one nor the other; when these figures are depicted in assemblage, they then formulate collective identities, which hints that individual voices both confront and form social dynamics.
Jiachen Zeng (b. 1997, China) is a mixed-media artist whose work spans installations, sculptures, paintings, and works on paper; through materiality and medium to explore spiritual and physical boundaries. Graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago majoring in Painting and Drawing, and subsequently a Master of Art degree in Sculpture at the Royal College of Art in the UK, Zeng’s work has been exhibited in numerous institutions and galleries around the world, selected include Shanghai West Bund Art Centre, Chicago Zhou B Art Center, Beijing One Atelier, Tong Gallery+Projects, London Lychee One Gallery, Barge House, Standpoint Gallery, etc.
